AIT’s impact is strong in SCG: Thailand’s Most Admired Company

The Siam Cement Group (SCG) remains the No 1. admired company in
Thailand, despite the economic downturn, a key survey
says. According to the The Asian Wall Street Journal survey
"Asia's 200 Most Admired Countries", the 96-year-old industrial firm's
performance was impressive despite having to defer new regional
projects. The SCG president credits his AIT education to his
contributions to the success of the firm.

Many AIT graduates work in SCG in all business units and at various
levels. Two out of the five core business units of SCG are headed
by AIT alumni, one of which is Chaovalit Ekabut, president of
SCG Paper.

"I believe that being deemed as the best-managed and most admired
company in Thailand will have double effects for us. First, we are
proud that people recognize our continuous efforts in what we do.
Second, it will inspire SCG to raise the bar to the next level. People
will continue watching us and will expect more from us, so we need to
work even harder," Mr Ekabut said.

Mr. Ekabut also credited AIT for his success saying, "AIT taught me to
push myself to overcome problems and allowed me to have particularly
good working experience with large and diverse groups of people. What I
learnt best from AIT was confidence."

He noted that AIT's strength involves a balance between academic
pursuits and practical application in the Asian context. Due to these,
AIT graduates have been known to naturally posses this excellent
combination which is advantageous for SCG personnel. "SCG also looks
for competent people from different backgrounds to support diversity
and create a desirable workplace," he added.
