A whopping 44,000 patients die every year in the United States due to medical errors. Deaths of patients due to medical errors exceed the number of deaths due to either accidents or AIDS and breast cancer.

Dr. Gutierrez earned his medical degree and a master's degree in health management from the University of Mexico. He also earned a master's degree in health finance from Johns Hopkins University. He is a member of the American College of Physician Executives, and serves as an adjunct faculty member at the McDonough School of Business of Georgetown University.
