“I congratulate you all for successfully winning this scholarship and
hope that you will contribute towards the national development of your
respective home countries,” the ambassador said. He added
that it was a great honor to visit a prestigious institute like
the AIT.
Japan has been assisting AIT for the past four decades by granting
scholarships, sending seconded faculty as well as contributing towards
its endowment fund. Ambassador Komachi added that the government
of Japan would continue to support AIT and help in the transfer of
technology in the region.
Professor Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Vice President for Resource
Development, thanked the government of Japan for its support to AIT. He
recalled the continuous association the Institute has enjoyed
with Japan, stating that AIT has emerged much stronger courtesy of the
unstinted support of Japan and its people.
The students who were awarded scholarships include Ms. Abina Shreshta
(Nepal), Ms. Ourng Chan Voleak (Cambodia), Mr. Md. Hoque (Bangladesh),
Ms. May Sabe Phyu (Myanmar), Ms. Shamina Akhtar (Bangladesh), Mr.
Bhogendra Mishra (Nepal), Ms. R. M.C.W.M.Rathnayakee (Sri Lanka) and
Mr.Kyaw Thein (Myanmar).
Speaking on behalf of the scholarship recipients, Ms. Shamina Akhtar
said they would always remain grateful to the government of Japan for
its generosity.
Mr. Masato Otaka, Economic Minister, Mr. Hiroshi Tomita, First
Secretary, and Mr. Tomoyuki Sakairi First Secretary of Embassy of Japan
in Thailand accompanied Ambassador Komachi at the function.

delegation from the Embassy of Japan to Thailand on the occasion of the
grant of scholarships to AIT students.
