Students from 22 countries participated by wearing their national
costumes and holding their country placards. The students represented
Thailand, Pakistan, Vietnam, England, Nepal, New Zealand, Philippines,
Bangladesh, Myanmar, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, U.S.A., Japan,
Nigeria, Laos, Finland, Uzbekistan, Taiwan, Korea, China, and
Mongolia.
International food stalls were the highlight of the day, with servings
ranging from hotdogs to Thai “Kanom-Krok”. A demonstration of how to
cook “Kanom-Krok” was popular both with children and their parents.
Food stalls from Nepal, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka,
Bangladesh and Japan dished out their respective national delicacies.
Another attraction was “samlor”, a Thai tricycle, which had children
climbing up and down on the exhibit. Most visitors arrived wearing the
“Fun and Food Fair” T-shirt, which was one of the fund-raising
activities organized by the school.
Children’s activities included four game stalls arranged into four
color groups—red, yellow, green, and blue. Each stall organized games
for children such as “Catch a Fish”, “Snake and Ladder”, “Dart
Throwing” and “Bowling Blast” among others.
In her welcome speech, Ms. Kaisa Pudas, the Principal of the school
stated that one of the objectives of the fund raising fair was to
purchase science and technology equipments. Prof. Peter Haddawy, Vice
President Academic Affairs, who inaugurated the fair, remarked that it
was wonderful to see parents and children joining the school for the
fund-raising event.
Dr. Pritam K. Shrestha, Chair of Parent Teacher Association (PTA),
stated that as the overall coordinator of the Golden Jubilee
celebrations of AIT, he was happy that the fair coincided with the
fiftieth anniversary celebrations of AIT, Silver Jubilee celebrations
of AITCS, as well as the UN day which marks the anniversary of the
Charter of the United Nations. “As a multi-cultural international
institution, AIT and its units including the AITCS are contributing
directly and indirectly to the stated United Nations’ aim of
facilitating cooperation in international law, security, economic
development, social progress, human rights and the achieving of world’s
peace. AITCS plays a special role in educating the little minds from
numerous cultures to live, learn, play, enjoy and work together in
harmony,” he added.
The climax of the event was the raffle draw with the first prize being
Bangkok-Singapore return tickets for two.
