The Philippines renewed its full commitment to the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and wished to remain an active member by becoming a signatory of the new AIT Charter. This was stated by H.E. Mr. Alberto G. Romulo, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines during a meeting with H.E. Dr. Tej Bunnag, Chairman of the AIT Board of Trustees and Prof. Said Irandoust, AIT President during their recent visit to the Republic of the Philippines.

Prof. Sudip Rakshit, Vice President for Research, joined a series of UNEP activities in support of the existing partnership between the two institutions. On 2 October 2009, Prof. Rakshit attended the 10th Collaborative Action Network (CAN) meeting in which AIT is a CAN partner. The meeting began with an update on AIT-UNEP RRC.AP by Mr. Mahesh Pradhan, Interim Director.

AIT President Said Irandoust met the Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Germany, H.E. Shahid Kamal and discussed with him the possibility of establishing an AIT Center in Pakistan.

Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) is one of the institutes which is featured prominently on the website of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) . This follows the move by AIT to join the UN Climate Neutral Network.

Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) has signed agreements with three companies – Advanced Agro Public Company Limited, D.A. Research Center Company Limited, and Likitomi (Thailand) Company Limited to launch joint research projects under the Royal Thai Government (RTG) funding program. AIT faculty members and researchers from these companies will jointly participate in the respective projects.

Nobel laureate Professor Elinor Ostrom has an AIT connection. AIT has been collaborating with Prof. Ostrom for the past 11 years with Prof. Ganesh P Shivakoti of School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) having coauthored five publications with Prof. Ostrom.

Eight students from AIT today (12 October) were awarded scholarships by H.E. Mr. Kyoji Komachi, Ambassador of Japan to Thailand at a simple yet impressive ceremony at AIT. The ambassador congratulated the students for their success in winning the scholarship.
