70 per cent of World’s irrigated land is in Asia: expert

With 70 per cent of the world’s irrigated land lying in Asia, environmental water stress is very closely correlated to irrigation practices in the region. Demography, diet and diversification are the three major drivers influencing irrigation practices in Asia. This was stated by Mr. Thierry Facon, Senior Water Management Officer of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) while delivering the keynote address at the Regional R&D Workshop on “Water saving irrigation practices in rice-based canal systems”, which is being jointly organized by the University of Copenhagen (KU and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) at the AIT Conference Center.

Sri Lanka evinces interest in AIT programs

Three students from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) are among the volunteers helping Telecoms Sans Frontières (TSF) in providing communications in the disaster hit areas in South East Asia. The three are already in Philippines and Samoa to help install, and operate communications equipment following the disasters.

AIT attends 60th anniversary celebrations of People’s Republic of China

Representatives from AIT attended the reception of the 60th anniversary
of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. They included the
Ms. Wannapa Pliansri, Coordinator-Royal Thai Government Relations,
External Relations and Communication Office (ERCO); Mr. Tenzin Rabgyal,
Program Officer, ERCO and Ms. Zhu Linli , President of the AIT Chinese
student association.
