AIT enjoys a robust relationship with Central Asia through the AIT and United Nations Environment Program-Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific (UNEP RRC.AP) cooperation, which supports the delivery of a number of projects in the region. Initiatives include support to development and implementation of the Regional Environmental Action Plan (REAP), integrated environmental assessments (IEA) at national level, national and sub-regional strategies for sustainable development (NSDS and SSDS), draft of the Central Asian Environmental Convention, and new initiatives in 2009 to support climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives. The cooperation also provides for a master’s course at AIT and internships for Central Asian junior professionals at the joint Regional Center for Asia and the Pacific supported by UNEP, which this year is marking 20 years of cooperation with AIT.
