Nottingham (Malaysia campus) has evinced keen interest in
collaborating with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). Prof. Sayed
Azam-Ali, Vice President for Research and Mr. Govindan Nair, Director,
International Office of the University of Nottingham (Malaysia Campus)
visited AIT and explored issues like capacity building, sustainable
development and joint research funding from various international
organizations.
The delegation met Prof. Peter Haddawy, Vice President for Academic
Affairs, Prof. Sudip K. Rakshit, Vice President for Research, Prof.
Ganesh P Shivakoti of Natural Resources Management, Dr. Peeyush Soni of
Agricultural Systems and Engineering , Dr. Pritam Shrestha,
Head-External Relations and Communication Office (ERCO) and Mr. Tenzin
Rabgyal, Program Officer, ERCO.
The University of Nottingham has developed a research training network
on a major research theme titled `Crops for the Future’. This theme
incorporates elements of genetics, physiology, agronomy, indigenous
knowledge, product development, marketing and modeling of promising
underutilized crops using a whole value chain approach. The Malaysia
and China campus of the University of Nottingham have adopted the
Public and Private Partnership (PPP) model. Earlier Prof. Haddawy had
met Prof. Sayed during a symposium on graduate employability in
Malaysia in June this year where he invited the delegation to visit
AIT.
