The delegation met the AIT President Said Irandoust on 11 January 2010
and expressed their keen desire to engage with AIT. The visitors
mentioned that AIT has already trained a significant number of resource
persons from Bhutan. However, a formal agreement on partnership with
AIT has been lacking. The delegation from Bhutan had also visited other
countries including Sri Lanka seeking similar partnerships.
AIT President Said Irandoust welcomed the delegates and assured them of
AIT’s commitment towards capacity building in the region. “AIT would be
very happy to work with you as a partner,” the AIT President said. He
added that AIT would continue to play a leading role and would like to
involve other international agencies in the partnership as well.
The delegation from the Royal University of Bhutan included Mr. Kezang
Chhodar, Director, Jigme Namgyel Polytechnic, Dewathang; Mr. Kaylzang
Tshering, Director, Samtse College of Education, Samtse; Mr. Lhato
Jamba, Director, Gaeddu College of Business Studies, Gedu; Mr. Tshering
Wangdi, Dean (Student Affairs), Sherubtse College, Kanglung; Mr.
Thubten Gyatso, Director, Paro College of Education, apart from
Mr. Gajel Lhundup. The AIT President was delighted to learning
that Mr. Tshering is an alumnus of AIT.
Earlier they were welcomed to AIT by Mr. Fazle Karim, In-charge, AIT
Extension, and were introduced to AIT Extension by Mr. Voravate
Chonlasin. Dr. Pritam K Shreshta, Head, External Resources and
Communications Office (ERCO), provided an overview presentation of
AIT's activities, academics, and programs.
Mrs. Niramol Ponvilai, Head Administrative and Technical Support Unit
of AIT Extension, coordinated the trip. AIT Extension has been a
leading resource for imparting training to resource persons from Bhutan
and the visit was organized by AIT Extension.
Later in the afternoon, they engaged in a discussion on “Management and
Operation of Media and Communications Unit” with the Media and
Communications Unit (MCU) team led by Mr. Shawn Kelly, Senior Media
Specialist. This was followed by a discussion on “Management and
Operation of the AIT Library” by Ms. Pranee Kiriyanant, Library
Coordinator.
