AIT graduate appointed Governor of Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research

The news was announced at press conference in April to publicize
TISTR’s achievements in research and development of health drink
products made from herbs and locally-produced vegetables.

Her formal appointment as the 13th Governor of TISTR followed a
thorough selection process, which saw her approved by the TISTR
administrative committee and then the Ministry of Finance who submitted
her name for final approval to Dr. Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich,
Minister of Science and Technology.

“I graduated in the scientific field and the greatest dream of any
scientist like me is to pursue science which can be useful to society,”
Mrs. Kasemsri said at the press conference.

Mrs. Kasemsri received her Bachelor’s degree in chemistry-mathematics
from Chulalongkorn University. Prior to serving as the new TISTR
Governor, she was Deputy Governor (Operation 1) of Industrial Estate
Authority of Thailand (I-EA-T), Ministry of Industry.

“In the case of Thailand, if we would like to develop our country to
be at the forefront of science, it will be necessary to use science and
technology to complement everything we do. We have to provide the
opportunity for researchers to work to the best of their abilities and
to promote the application of science to answer life’s questions and to
solve problems that lead to a better quality of life, environment, and
society,” she said.

Mrs Kasemsri said her first assignments will involve the urgent
implementation of activities that are in accordance with TISTR’s
mission – which is to increase its engagement with both the public and
private sectors for the sustainable development of the country through
science and technology.

“The first thing to do is to promote TISTR to be known to all sectors
so that the organization has the potential to support and enhance the
capacity of entrepreneurs, such as farmers, to have more income and
achieve a better quality of life. It will work to achieve business
growth and networking. To achieve this, TISTR needs to develop its
human resources and to support its researcher to have creative ideas
that lead to innovations, as well as support business concepts. This
also includes providing opportunities to our researchers to exchange
their experiences with outside organizations both locally and
internationally. TISTR will work closely with partner organizations be
they industrial, agricultural, or community sector-based, and will
widely expand its network and increase the quality of its services to
international standards.”
