55 students participate in AIT Master’s Research Competition

Competitions were held in seven categories, namely, Civil Engineering,
Development, Energy and Environment, Industrial Systems Engineering,
Information and Communication Technologies, Management, and
Resources.

Ms. May Phyo Aung of the Structural Engineering Field of Study emerged
victorious in the Civil Engineering category. Her thesis, “Development
of Post-Tensioned Precast Concrete Building Systems for Seismic
Resistance” won the prize. Her adviser was Dr. Pennung Warnitchai. Ms.
Khin Moh Moh Latt from Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering
Field of Study was the runnerup. Her thesis “A Study on Electromagnetic
Responses of Some Oil and Gas Basins in Southeast Asia Using
Model-Based Inversion”. Dr. Giao Huy Pham of School of Engineering and
Technology (SET) was her thesis adviser.

Miss Duangsamorn Jatupornpimol of Gender and Development Field of
Study won the competition in the Development category. Her thesis was
titled “State Response to Intimate Partner Violence in Thailand”. Her
adviser was Dr. Philippe Doneys of the School of Environment, Resources
and Development (SERD). The runner up in this category was Mr. Md.
Rabiul Islam of Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Management
interdisciplinary program. His thesis was titled “Building Disaster
Resilient Coastal Community in a Multi-hazard prone area of Bangladesh.
Prof. Jayant Kumar Routray, Director,-ASEAN Regional Center of
Excellence on MDGs was his adviser.

Ms. Kaushalya C. Wijekoon of Environmental Engineering and Management
Field of Study won in the Energy and Environment category. Her thesis
was titled “High Rate Thermophilic Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactor for
Wastewater Treatment”. Her adviser was Prof. C. Visvanathan of SERD.
The runner up in this category was Ms. Jing Chen of Environmental
Engineering and Management Field of Study whose thesis was titled
“Analysis and Qualification of Air Quality and Climate Co-Benefits for
Coal-Fired Power Plants in China. Prof. Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh of SERD was
her adviser.

Mr. Sarayut Amornwongpeeti of Microelectronics Field of Study was the
winner in the category of Industrial Systems Engineering. His thesis
was titled “A Fourth-Order Cascaded Multi-Bit Delta-Sigma Modulator
with Interstage Feedback Paths”. Dr. Mongkol Eakpanyapong of SET was
his adviser. The runner up in this category was Ms. Aarthy Sivapunniyam
of Microelectronics Field of Study. Her thesis was titled “Improved
Performance of Gas Sensors Based on Zinc Stannate Nanostructures”.
Prof. Joydeep Dutta, Director of the Nanotechnology Center of
Excellence was the adviser.

Ms. Sraddha Adhikari of the Telecommunications Field of Study won in
the category of Information and Communications Technologies. Her thesis
was titled “Content Discovery Using People Social Pattern in
Peer-to-Peer Networks”. Dr. Teerapat Sanguankotchakorn of SET was the
adviser. Ms. Shashi Gharti of Computer Science Field of Study was the
runner up. Her thesis was titled “Multiple Person Tracking and Left
Luggage Detection Using Appearance Models” and her adviser was Dr.
Matthew N. Dailey of SET.

Mr. Pongthep Vichaikul won the competition in the Management category.
His thesis was titled “Degree of Family ownership and the firm
performance, A study of listed company in Thailand”. Ms. Qurat-Ul-ain
was the runner up with her thesis being “Efficient Market Hypotheses:
Evidence from Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE)”. The adviser of both
students was Dr. Sundar Venkatesh of the School of Management
(SOM).

Mr. Yadhu Nath Guragain of the Food Engineering & Bioprocess
Technology Field of Study was the winner in the category of Resources.
His adviser was Prof. Sudip K. Rakshit, Vice President (Research) and
the thesis was titled “New pretreatment methods for lignocellulosic
residue for second generation bioethanol production”. Ms. Chanerin
Maneechansook of Agribusiness Management interdisciplinary program was
the runner up in this category. Her thesis was titled "Business
analysis of buffalo dairy farm: Case study of Murrah Farm, Plaengyao
District, Chachoengsao Province, Thailand”. Her adviser was Dr. Peeyush
Soni of SERD.
