IROST signs agreement with AIT on Climate Change technologies

IROST along with Iranian Regional Centre for Science & Technology
Transfer, as a subsidiary of Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional
Cooperation (IOR-ARC.RCSTT) and the Deputy for Planning, Development
and Technology of the Ministry of Industries and Mines (MIM) of the
Islamic Republic of Iran are the other signatories.

The agreement was signed by the President of AIT, Prof. Said Irandoust
with Prof. Abbas Taeb, President, IROST; Dr.Mahmoud Molanejad,
Director, IOR-ARC.RCSTT; and Mr. Mohammad Panahifar, General Manager,
MIM. The contract was signed in the presence of H.E. Mr Majid Bizmark,
Ambassador of Iran to Thailand and Mr. Homayoun Roustaei Khoshkebijari,
Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission.

H.E. Mr. Majid Bizmark hoped that the contract with AIT would help
bring researchers from Iran and AIT together. The
ambassador also remarked that AIT is a reputed institution in the
region and that it is well accepted by the Government in Iran.

The contract is an outcome of the visit of the AIT President to Iran in
2008 which was followed up by a visit to Iran by members of the AIT
Administration. The President also wrote to H.E the Iranian President
in December 2009, indicating that the Institute was ready to join IROST
to undertake research projects in relation to climate change and the
development of green technologies. IROST and AIT had earlier signed an
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in March 2008 in order to share their
experiences in science and technology with countries in the Middle East
and Central Asia.

Apart from Prof. Irandoust, AIT was represented by Prof. Sudip K.
Raskhit, Vice President for Research; Dr. Mousa M. Nazhad, Coordinator
of Pulp and Paper Technology Field of Study at AIT's School of
Environment, Development and Resources (SERD), and Mr. Tenzin Rabgyal,
Senior Program Office from External Relations and Communications Office
(ERCO).

The contract will be overseen by a steering committee comprising of
Prof. Abbas Taeb and Prof. Nasrin Moazami from IROST; and Prof.
Irandoust and Prof. Rakshat from AIT. Mr. Mohammad Hassan Entezari from
IROST and Dr. Mousa M Nazhad are the scientists in charge of this
contract.
