Nong Lam University (NLU), Vietnam and Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
According to the MOU, AIT will serve as one of NLU’s partners in cooperative academic and training programs and help NLU implement joint programs aimed at capacity enhancement and human resource development. The two will also cooperate to implement new programs, apart from reinforcing and improving existing programs in the fields of Management, Engineering and Technology, and Environment Resources and
Development at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The AIT President remarked that the collaboration between NLU and AIT should be more extensive and identified two stage programs and unified programs as possibilities. Dr. Giang revealed that 30 AIT alumni are already serving at NLU and this forms a strong basis of the collaboration.
Dr. Le Dinh Don, Head of Biotechnology, Department and Director of Resarch Institute for Biotechnology and Environment, NLU said the MOU will form the basis of further collaboration between individual faculty members who can initiate joint programs. Prof. Sudip Kumar Rakshit, Vice President for Research, said AIT is open to new ideas,
particularly on the issue of joint degrees.
Ms. Nguyen Hong Nhung, a lecturer from NLU, who is currently pursuing doctoral studies at Food Engineering and Bioprocess Technology (FEBT) Field of Study at School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) also joined the delegation.
Nong Lam University (NLU) was founded in 1955 and is a leading university in the field of agriculture and forestry in southern Vietnam. Since 1996, the university has been consistently pursuing the goal to become a comprehensive university. It has 14,000 full-time and 8,000 part-time students.
Also present during the MOU signing ceremony were Dr. B.H.W.Hadikusumo, Associate Dean, School of Engineering and Technology (SET); Dr. Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, Coordinator, Natural Resources Management Field of Study at SERD; Dr. Pritam Krishna Shrestha, Head, External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO); and Ms. Tiamkare Thitithamtada, Program Officer, ERCO.
