While describing his visit to Bangkok as “a part of a larger effort by
the Obama administration to enhance and deepen our engagement in the
Asia-Pacific, and in particular, in Southeast Asia and with ASEAN,” the
distinguished diplomat made a special reference to U.S.-Thai Creative
Partnership. “We believe that, by connecting our greatest minds -- our
best scientists, engineers, artists, and entrepreneurs -- with
Thailand’s most talented and entrepreneurial thinkers, we can sync
business and government efforts; create linkages between universities;
and build bridges between universities and businesses,” he
remarked.
In the context of U.S.-Thai Creative Partnership, H.E. Burns stated
that “Western Digital’s work with the world-class Asian Institute of
Technology in Thailand to develop degree programs in Information
Technology is just one example of the type of cooperation we want to
expand under this Creative Partnership.”
H.E. William J. Burns holds the highest rank in the United States
Foreign Service, Career Ambassador, and became Under Secretary for
Political Affairs, the highest career position in the State Department,
in May 2008. He is the US Department's third-ranking official and its
senior career diplomat. The Under Secretary serves as the day-to-day
manager of overall regional and bilateral policy issues, and oversees
the bureaus for Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Eurasia,
the Near East, South and Central Asia, the Western Hemisphere,
International Organizations and International Narcotics and Law
Enforcement.
