This was stated by the Ambassador during his maiden visit to AIT on 14
September 2010. Apart from meeting senior AIT officials, the Ambassador
also visited the ASEAN Regional Center of Excellence on MDGs, Yunus
Center at AIT, AIT Consulting, Energy Park and the Center of Excellence
in Nanotechnology.
AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust while welcoming the Ambassador,
elaborated on the new AIT Charter and invited the Government of Israel
to be a part of the expansion of AIT. The President also briefed the
ambassador of the recent initiatives and activities at AIT including
the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at
AIT Day 2010, Friends of AIT Heritage (FAITH) Foundation, new AIT
funding model as well as expansion of the AIT campuses in seven
countries. Prof. Irandoust also elaborated on the role that AIT is
playing in capacity building in Afghanistan, Iraq and North Korea.
The ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Ilan Weitzman, First Secretary,
and Deputy Chief of Mission. Prof. Joydeep Dutta, Vice President for
Academic Affairs (VPAA); Dr. Weerakorn Ongsakul, Dean, School of
Environment and Resources Development (SERD); Dr. Nitin Afzulpurkar,
Dean, School of Engineering and Technology (SET); Prof. Nazrul Islam,
Representative of the School of Management (SOM); Prof. Sivanappan
Kumar, Coordinator of Energy Program at SERD; Dr. Oleg Shipin,
Coordinator of Environmental Engineering and Management (EEM) program
at SERD; Mr. Faiz Shah, Head, Development Management of AIT Extension;
Mr. Kyaw Soe Hlaing, Acting Head, External Relations and Communications
Office (ERCO) and Mr. Tenzin Rabgyal, Senior Program Officer, ERCO also
attended the meeting.
