The other exhibits named “Wildlife”, “Bamboo Water Fall”, “Flower
Garden”, and “Tree of Hope” were equally popular with proud photo
seekers scouting for a memorable backdrop for the perfect graduation
snapshot. The intricate and visually impactful entries combined to add
a certain splendor to the central fountain patio area, on what was
already a special day at AIT.
“The idea for this competition originated completely from our
landscaping staff,” said Sodexo Contract Manager, Mr. Stephen Andrews.
He explained that the floral displays were the culmination of months of
dedicated work of the 30-plus staff involved in the competition. The
five competing teams completed most of the work on their own time,
Andrews stressed. “They conceptualized and designed them from scratch,
and even sourced signature elements like seashells and fruit on their
own,” he added.
Although the five teams were awarded small cash prizes for their
efforts, the Sodexo manager stressed that money was not the prime
motivation. More important, he said, was the professional sense of
accomplishment gained by achieving something grand through teamwork.
“This was a highly anticipated day for all the contestants,” he said.
“All of our workers were extremely excited by and thankful for the
presence of President Irandoust, who toured the displays and judged
their individual merits just prior to the 114th Commencement Ceremony.”
Mr. Andrews explained that Sodexho encourages its staff be
entrepreneurial, to constantly improve their skills and test their
creativity in their work. He added that the competition was a nice
way to enhance overall team-building. “After a study visit to
the botanical gardens in Pattaya, our workers came up with the idea for
this botanical display competition in time for AIT’s
Graduation Day,” he said.
