The President took the opportunity of informing H.E. Mr. Rahman about
AIT and its initiatives in Bangladesh. The convocation ceremony was
telecast live on all major television channels in Bangladesh, and also
received significant coverage in major news media in the country. Prof.
Irandoust’s address to 668 graduands was featured in the newspaper, The
Daily Star. Eastern University Vice Chancellor Prof. A. K. M. Saiful
Majid, also addressed the students on the occasion.
The President also met Her Excellency Hon. Dr. Dipu Moni, Foreign
Minister of Bangladesh, where he informed the Minister about the latest
developments in the new AIT Charter. The Minister told Prof. Irandoust
that Bangladesh wishes to be among the first five countries to ratify
the AIT Charter. Mr. Tarik Ahsan, Director General International
Affairs; Mr. Jishnu Roy Choudhury, Director General of Office of
Foreign Minister; Mr. A.K.M. Shahidul Karim, Director, Office of
Foreign Minister also attended the meeting. The President was
accompanied by Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director, Fundraising and Mr.
S.M.H. Bokhari, President, Bangladesh Chapter of AIT Alumni Association
(AITAA).
The President also called on Nobel laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus and
briefed him about Yunus Center at AIT.
