“Can Tho University currently
hosts an AIT-Vietnam office and it is looking towards organizing and
offering more programs,” Prof. Tri said. He added that the delegation
of Can Tho University officials included heads of various units of the
university, so that they could learn more about AIT, its management,
administration and structure.
The delegation was welcomed by Prof. Sudip Kumar Rakshit, Vice
President – Research, AIT, who remarked that apart from traditional
academic offerings, the two universities could work together in the
area of sustainable development and climate change. AIT also hosts the
Greater Mekong Subregion Academic and Research Network (GMSARN) and
this offers another possibility of cooperation, Prof. Rakshit
added.
Dr. Amrit N. Bart, Director, AIT Center of Vietnam, mentioned that AIT
is working very closely with the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City
as well as Can Tho City to facilitate better functioning. “AIT is also
engaged with both the private sector as well as alumni to help create
an AIT satellite campus in Vietnam,” Dr. Bart added. Dr. Do Ba Khang of
School of Management (SOM) highlighted the proposal to launch an
Executive Master’s program in Business Administration in AIT-Vietnam;
while Dr. Mokbul Morshed Ahmad Associate Dean, School of Environment,
Resources and Development (SERD) stated that AIT is planning to launch
a Master’s program in Climate Change.
Apart from Prof. Tri, the delegation comprised of Mr. Le Phi Hung,
Director, Department of Human Resources Development, Dr. Dao Van Khanh,
Deputy Director, International Relations Department, Mr. Nguyen Van
Hieu, Director, Department of Finance, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuong,
Director, Department of Students’ Affairs, Mr. Trinh Ngoc Hoa, Deputy
Director, Department of Administration and Planning, Mr. Tran Thien
Binh, Secretary, Student Union, Mr. Duong Minh Hoang, Staff member,
Department of Equipment and Physical Facilities, Ms. Son Bup Pha, Staff
member, Department of Human Resources Development and Ms. Phan Thi Thu
Ha, Representative of TRIG (Higher Education) Project- Hanoi.
The delegation also met Prof. Said Irandoust, President, AIT; Ms. Izel
Ann Mojado-Dante, Head, Administration; Dr. Somkeit Kojchavivong, Head
of Human Resources, and Mr. Noppadon Ritthipongshusit, Head of Finance.
Mr. Olivier Drean, Coordinator, French Cooperation, and Advisor to
Administration and Ms. Tiamkare Thitithamtada, Program Officer, ERCO
also attended the meeting.
