Prof. Chai who led a delegation comprising of Dr. Jeh Won Lee, Vice
President for Planning and Budget, and Ms. Jungchoon Lee, Deputy
Manager of International Cooperation, Office of International Programs,
stated that Yeungnam
University was keen on strengthening its relations with AIT. He was
curious to know if there are any other similar international institutes
of higher education in other parts of the world.
Prof. Chai explored the idea of offering real-time distance learning
courses jointly by AIT and Yeungnam University. Prof. Chai suggested
that the two universities can also offer mid-career management training
programs to engineers. Ms. Lee also proposed that Yeungnam University
could offer select scholarships to AIT students under an exchange
program.
Welcoming the delegation, Prof. Said Irandoust, President, AIT
suggested that joint degree programs could be an area of collaboration.
He stated that AIT is planning full-fledged campuses in different
countries in Asia, and elaborated on the joint degree programs offered
by AIT along with partners in Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Myanmar.
In response to a query by Prof. Chai on partnership with the industry,
Prof. Joydeep Dutta, Vice President for Academic Affairs elaborated on
the Professional Master’s program on Hard Disk Engineering offered
jointly with Western Digital Corporation. Dr. Nitin V. Afzulpurkar,
Dean, School of Engineering and Technology (SET), while highlighting
the undergraduate initiative of AIT, suggested that the student
exchange program and scholarship should include both Bachelor’s and
Master’s students. Yeungnam University will be initiating a formal
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for student scholarships for AIT
exchange students.
Others who met the delegation included Dr. Donyaprueth Krairit, MBA
program coordinator; Ms. Jaramporn Hanpol, Program Officer, School of
Management (SOM); Dr. Pritam Krishna Shrestha, Head, External Relations
and Communications (ERCO) and Mr. Tenzin Rabgyal, Senior Program
Officer, ERCO. The delegation later visited the Mechatronics and
Nanotechnology laboratories.
