Sri Lanka suggests AIT Colombo office

The minister made these remarks during a meeting with the AIT President
Prof. Said Irandoust and Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director Fundraising
and Head AIT-Sri Lanka Satellite Campus Task Force, on 15 February
2011. H.E.Mr. Dissanayake stated that his Ministry could help AIT in
leasing a small office building in Colombo. Also attending the meeting
were Dr. Sunil Nawaratne, Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education; Mt.
Nilrusha Pieris, Coordinating Secretary to the Hon. Deputy Minister of
External Affairs; Mr. Abeeth Dangalla, advisor to the Minister of
Higher Education; and Mr. Sunimal Weerasooriya, Vice President AIT
Alumni Association Sri Lanka Chapter, CEO Clear Lanka Pvt. Ltd., and
member of the AIT-Sri Lanka Satellite Campus Task Force.

Earlier the President met Hon. Namal Rajapaksa M.P. and Minister for
Southern Development, who revealed that the Hambantota area has been
demarcated to house the Athletes Village for the 2018 Commonwealth
Games. The Sri Lankan IT sector will be developed in Hambantota, and
AIT should consider offering courses that would cater to these needs
such as IT, Civil Engineering, Aquaculture, Agribusiness, Food
Processing, and Postharvest Technology, Logistics and Supply Chain
Management, Marine, Tourism, and Sports Medicine, the minister
suggested.

The AIT delegation also met Hon. Mr. Neomal Perera, Deputy Minister of
External Affairs and Hon. Mr. Gitanjan Gunawardene, Deputy Minister of
Finance and Planning.
