The report by the AIT Alumni Affairs Office surveyed the 17,849 alumni
recorded in its central database. The research found that AIT graduates
are now living in over half of the world’s internationally-recognized
nation-states.
Home to 5,666 graduates, Thailand tops the list with close to 32 per
cent of all AIT alumni. Vietnam comes second with slightly more that 14
per cent of all graduates. Rounding out the top ten as a country of
residence are Taiwan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines, India,
USA and Pakistan.
The study also evaluated the country of origin for alumni when they
originally enrolled as a student at AIT. Based on country of origin,
AIT alumni hailed from 85 countries and territories. Thailand, Vietnam
and India are the top three countries in terms of nationality, making
up 27, 15 and 5.5 per cent respectively. Graduates originally from Sri
Lanka and China also cracked the top ten list, replacing Indonesia and
the United States from top ten list of country of residence.
“The results show that many AIT alumni do in fact move on to live and
work in countries beyond their origin,” said Dr. Hoang Le Tien,
In-charge, AIT Alumni Affairs Office. “It means that AIT graduates are
living highly international lives and are really world citizens.”
