On his maiden visit to AIT, Mr. Marius Burgat of
International Affairs (Asia), EPFL,
stated that EPFL would welcome doctoral students from AIT. He added
that the International Affairs office at EPFL would seek to facilitate
formal faculty partnerships with AIT. On a visit to learn about AIT,
Mr. Burgat visited various facilities within the AIT campus on his two
day visit on 24-25 March 2011.
Welcoming Mr. Burgat, Prof. Said Irandoust, President, AIT remarked
that internationality has remains a strength for AIT ever since it was
established in 1959. AIT also enjoys a strategic location and we are
located close to challenges that scientists love -- be it issues of
climate change and its impact, or be it issues concerning megacities.
Prof. Irandoust said the cooperation of EPFL with the Center of
Excellence in Nanotechnology at AIT (CoEN) needs to be reinforced and
extended to other fields and programs.
Mr. Burgat also representatives of the three AIT schools and AIT
exntension; including Dr. Paul Janecek, representative of
School of Engineering and Technology (SET); Dr. Thammarat Koottatep,
representative of School of Environment, Resources and Development
(SERD); Dr. Jonathan Shaw, Director, AIT Extension; Dr. Yuosre Badir
and Mr. Vickrant Gurung of the School of Management.
He also met Prof. Chettiyappan Visvanathan of Environmental
Engineering and Management (EEM); Prof. Joydeep Dutta, Vice President
for Academic Affairs; Prof. Sudip Kumar Rakshit, Vice President –
Research; Dr. Pritam Krishna Shrestha, Head, External Relations and
Communications (ERCO) and Dr. Othniel Mintang Yila, Program
Coordinator, ERCO.
