Ambassador plays host to Japanese scholarship recipients

H.E. Mr. Kojima thanked AIT and its contribution to the Government of
Japan towards reconstruction activities in the affected areas after the
March 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster.

AIT President, Prof. Said Irandoust, and Dr. Kyoko Kusakabe,
Coordinator, Gender and Women Studies (GDS) Field of Study at AIT’s
School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) and Japanese
Faculty Representative, also attended the function. The function was
attended by Ambassadors and representatives of the home countries of
the graduating students, as well as distinguished guests from the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Royal Thai Government; Japan International
Cooperation Agency (JICA); and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency
(JAXA).

The graduating students, all of whom will be awarded a Master’s degree
at AIT’s graduation on 26 May 2011 include three students from GDS
field of study and four from Remote Sensing and Geographical
Information Systems (RS-GIS). GDS students include Ms. Abina Shrestha
from Nepal, Ms. May Sabe Phyu from Myanmar, and Ms. Shamima Akhter from
Bangladesh. RS-GIS students include Mr. Md. Ahasanul Hoque from
Bangladesh, Mr. Bhogendra Mishra from Nepal, Ms. R.M.C.W.M. Rathnayake
from Sri Lanka, and Mr. Kyaw Thein from Myanmar.

The AIT President expressed his sincere gratitude for the support
provided by the Government of Japan to the graduating students. He also
thanked the Government of Japan for being a strong supporter of the new
AIT Charter. He also extended his condolences to the victims of the
triple disaster of earthquake, tsunami and nuclear fallout in
Japan.

Two of the graduating students, Mr. Md. Ahasanul Hoque and Ms. May
Sabe Phyu represented the students in extending their appreciation to
the Government of Japan.
