New AIT Management Team takes over

Welcoming the new management AIT, Prof. Said Irandoust, President AIT
said the new team reflects the need of the changing times. “AIT is
changing and the change has to start at the management level. Hence we
now have a new management team, which will be tasked with implementing
other changes within AIT to ensure that the Institute achieves even
greater success in the times to come.” The management team will
concentrate of strategic thinking, and being a slimmer and more agile
team, it will be able to respond quickly and efficiently to emerging
challenges, he added.

Today’s meeting was attended by Prof. Joydeep Dutta, Vice President
for Academic Affairs; Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Vice President for
Resource Development; Dr. Nitin V. Afzulpurkar, Dean, School of
Engineering and Technology (SET); and Dr.Weerakorn Ongsakul, Dean,
School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD). Prof. Sudip
Kumar Rakshit, Vice President for Research, and Dr. Barbara Igel, Dean,
School of Management (SOM) sent their apologies.

Explaining the rationale for the new management team, Mr. Niclas
Lindgren, Chief Executive Officer of Cerion, who is the brains behind
the restructuring, said the three principles of the reorganization are
“simplicity, accountability and transparency.” The new management team
will focus on management issues, and this will liberate academicians
from other administrative and managerial tasks, he added.

Mr. Lindgren stated that in his opinion, for an institute with a
student body of a little over 2300 students, there are a multitude of
teams, task forces and working groups, leading to a situation where too
many people are being asked to perform management roles. In the coming
days, all management bodies will be analyzed to ensure that management
tasks are handled by the management team only, he said. He also
suggested that academic and management career tracks should remain
separated so that one does not interfere with the other. This
management team will also help in doing the groundwork towards AIT’s
proposal to establish satellite campuses. The new management structure
will be more cost effective, and will ensure that the right people are
assigned the right task.

The new management team has started working immediately, and the
evaluation of existing committees shall be over by the end of June. At
the meeting today, the Management Team decided that internal
communications need to be strengthened and focused towards the delivery
of accurate and timely information to the AIT community.

The new management team also appreciated the efforts of consultant Mr.
Niclas Lindgren for his hard work in preparing the administration and
management restructuring plan.
