ADB-JSP to continue scholarships at AIT

Asia Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) is keen to continue scholarships forAsian Institute of Technology (AIT) students. It also wishes to strengthen its interaction with its alumni. This was the sentiment expressed by Mr. Kazuo Kojima, Senior Financing Partnerships Specialist, Office of Cofinancing Operations, ADB, at a meeting at AIT on 27 June 2011.

Unified Bachelor-Master program launched in India

A Unified Bachelor-Master-Program (UBMP) in the Agribusiness Management (ABM) was formally launched on 13 June 2011 at the Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHIATS), Allahabad, India. The inaugural ceremony was attended by Prof. S. B. Lal, Pro Vice Chancellor, SHIATS, and Dr. Weerakorn Ongsakul, Dean, AIT’s School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD).

Membrane technology was pioneered at AIT: alumnus

The Membrane Bio Reactor technology was pioneered at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in the nineteen eighties when the idea of submerged membranes was experimented. Stating this, AIT alumnus and Associate Dean (International) of Deakin University, Australia, Prof. K. Baskaran, said that the work initiated at AIT by Dr. Kazuo Yamamoto was later developed at the University of Tokyo.

A special lecture on “Application of a hybrid Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) system to treat priority pollutants from agricultural runoffs” will be delivered by Prof. K. Baskaran, Associate Dean (International), Faculty of Science and Technology, Chair in Civil Engineering, School of Engineering, Deakin University, Australia on 21 June 2011. The lecture being organized by the Environmental Engineering and Management (EEM) field of study in AIT’s School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) will be delivered in Room E-206 from 10.00-11.00 hours.

AIT hosts “Asian Prefab Technology for Budget Housing” seminar for Africa

“Housing is a crucial need of mankind after food. It is a key indicator of a good standard of living in a society. It forms the base around which families are established, communities are settled, nations are built and states are organized in peace,” AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust said in a keynote address on 17 June 2011, as read on his behalf by Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, AIT Vice President for Resources and Development, at the seminar on “Asian Prefab Technology for Budget Housing” hosted by AIT.
