Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) is keen to continue scholarships forAsian Institute of Technology (AIT) students. It also wishes to strengthen its interaction with its alumni. This was the sentiment expressed by Mr. Kazuo Kojima, Senior Financing Partnerships Specialist, Office of Cofinancing Operations, ADB, at a meeting at AIT on 27 June 2011.
Mr. Kojima, who interacted with recipients of ADB-JSP at AIT, said
they were keen that the alumni maintain a relationship with both the
Institute and the donor agency. Mr. Kojima said that despite budgetary
constraints and the recent tsunami, the scholarship scheme would
continue.Mr. Kojima showed keen interest in the new AIT Charter and the
proposed satellite campus model. He was also keen to learn about the
new programs and offerings at AIT, apart from the steps taken by AIT in
ensuring Japan’s visibility in AIT.Dr. Pritam Krishna Shrestha, Head, External Relations and
Communications Office (ERCO), highlighted the new developments at AIT.
He suggested that students from AIT could be granted opportunities to
pursue internships in Japan. He also suggested that AIT could be a
venue of an alumni meeting for Japan-ADB scholars. Mr. Benjamin A.
Gargabite, Coordinator, Admission and Scholarship Office introduced the
scholarship recipients. Ms. Tiamkare Thitithamtada, Program Officer,
ERCO, also attended the meeting.

Surangi Bandara (studying Structural Engineering from Sri Lanka); Mr.
Birat Gyawali (studying Water Engineering and Management from Nepal);
Mr. S.M. Najmul Hoque (studying Energy from Bangladesh); Mr. Mohammad
Masud (studying Agricultural Systems Engineering from Bangladesh); Ms.
Silvia Ayu Widayati studying Food and Bioprocess Technology from
Indonesia); and Ms. M.A.D. Anusha Dilhani Perera (studying Aquaculture
and Aquatic Resource Management from Sri Lanka).
