The new office was unveiled on 31 August 2011 at a ceremony
graced by H.E. Dr. Tej Bunnag, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the
Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and former Minister of Foreign
Affairs, Thailand, who officially opened the facility.
The AIT chairman led a delegation from the headquarters of the Asian
Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand, which included Prof. Said
Irandoust, AIT President, and Dr. Jonathan Shaw, Director, AIT
Extension.
“The sheer growth in the number of programs we offer has required us
to increase our number of classrooms and offices,” AIT-VN director Dr.
Amrit Bart said.
Together with AIT’s School of Engineering and Technology, AIT-VN will
launch four new Professional Master’s programs in Engineering on 10
September 2011. AIT’s School of Management and School of Environment,
Resources and Development in Bangkok also run ongoing programs with
AIT-VN in Ho Chi Minh City. AIT-VN has added three classrooms,
four faculty offices, a meeting room, a small library and a bigger
working space for office staff at the Ho Chi Minh facility.
“We were pleased to inaugurate this beautiful office strategically
located in the central part of the city,” said AIT President Prof. Said
Irandoust. The AIT president also expressed his thanks to the
Government of Vietnam for its strong and continued support
of AIT’s work in Vietnam through its government and institutional
partners.
AIT Vietnam is made up of the main center in Hanoi, a learning
resource center at Can Tho University in Can Tho City, and the upgraded
facility in Ho Chi Minh City.
Combined, these AIT Vietnam facilities have produced more than 15,000
short course trainee graduates, Vietnamese nationals also make up the
second largest number of AIT’s more than 18,000 alumni, with 2,842
Master and PhD graduates.
