AIT constitutes task force for Recovery, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation

Under the leadership of Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Vice President
for Resource Development, AIT has constituted four task forces namely,
Social and People task force headed by Dr. Sandro Calvani, Director,
ASEAN Regional Center of Excellence on Millennium Development Goals
(ARCMDG); Natural Environment task force head by Dr. Thammarat
Koottatep of AIT’s School of Environment, Resources and Development
(SERD); Built Environment task force headed by Dr. Noppadol Phien-wej
of School of Engineering and Technology ; and Fundraising and Economics
task force headed by Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director, Fundraising. The
meeting was attended by over 30 faculty and staff, including Unit Heads
and Center Directors.

A Program Management team comprising of Dr. Peter Theisen, Business
Strategy Consultant, Dr. Roland Amoussou-Guenou, President–AsiaAfrica
Foundation, Mr. Ashish OM Sitoula, AIT Flood Emergency Operations
Coordinator and Mr. Shawn Kelly, Senior Media Specialist will assist
the Chairman of the AIT rebuilding plan and the four task forces. Dr.
Theisen will also be working on assisting AIT with overall business
planning including business continuity and financial viability.
Other members of AIT, including student representatives, external
experts and AIT alumni will also be associated with the task force.
Each task force will finalize its key activities and timeline in one
week and they shall integrate their respective workplans to create a
master plan for recovery, reconstruction and rehabilitation in two
weeks time. An external independent evaluation of the viability and
integrity of the current location of the AIT campus will also be
conducted to assess the possibility of future risks from similar
disasters, besides estimating the necessary investment required to
withstand such disasters.

Activities relating to weeding and solid waste management; draining of
flood water and waste removal; opening and cleaning of sewage lines and
water exit canals; cleaning of roads, transport lines and walkways;
installation of alternate electricity supply and recovery of current
supply stations; structural assessment of all landscape, will commence
soon under the guidance of the necessary task forces.
