New post-flood beginning for AIT

New post-flood beginning for AIT

All academic classes are set to resume on December 6 at temporary
locations at Stamford International University (SIU), Hua Hin, and
Silipakorn University, Petchaburi Information Technology (IT) Campus,
Cha-Am.

AIT has tried to limit the disruption to students’ academic courses by
resuming all classes faster than other universities similarly impacted
by the flood. Students involved in research work will resume their
studies at various locations by working in close consultation with
their advisors.

AIT Student Union representatives welcomed over 100 class-taking
students back to Thailand at Suvarnabhumi International Airport on
November 28.

The international returnees were immediately transported to meet
Student Office officials in Hua Hin. By evening, the returned students
had been allocated their temporary accommodations.

Temporary AIT offices are already functional at different locations in
greater Bangkok, with significant numbers of faculty and staff back on
the job after more than a month of dealing with the impacts of the
flood.

Meanwhile, water is being pumped from the home campus in Pathumthani
and it is expected to be completely dry by December 5. Damage
assessments and professional cleansing operations will start after
that, AIT officials said, followed by restoration and recovery work.

According to an initial estimate, AIT has sustained Bt. 1 billion in
overall damages.
