Ground floor salvage mission accomplished

Ground floor salvage mission accomplished
The series of salvage missions, which began shortly after the AIT
campus was flooded on 21 October 2011, continued until 11 December 2011
with buses from Bangkok and temporary locations at Hua Hin and Cha-am
helping the AIT community retrieve their valuables.
The salvage missions were intended to retrieve office equipment,
documents and other valuables from various offices, besides personal
belongings from residential premises.

Offices based on the ground floor of the campus used the final
opportunity to sift between material that could be salvaged, and
discard the unusable. This included the AIT Library, which has lost a
significant number of books that were housed on the ground floor.
Volumes on the top floor are, however safe, while some volumes on the
higher shelves of the ground floor could also be retrieved.
A similar story was evident in the residential buildings, with students
managing to get back their belongings, particularly their books,
computers and other valuables urgently needed for resuming academic
classes.
Members of the AIT community participating in the salvage missions were
required to wear protective masks and gloves while entering. They also
submitted written forms informing about the materials that they had
retrieved.
With the salvage missions at the ground floor accomplished, a cleaning
operation of the ground floor at AIT buildings, both academic and
administrative, including residential complexes and dormitories was
undertaken on 10-11 December 2011. The cleaning operation will be
followed by standard procedures for disinfection and safety
measures.
