Academic activities will resume in the second floors of the School of
Engineering and Technology (SET), School of Environment, Resources and
Development (SERD), School of Management (SOM), and the AIT Conference
Center. However the ground floor of AIT, which was damaged by the
flood, will remain out of bounds and may be sealed. Upper floors of
academic and administrative buildings will be readied with some basic
service functions.
This decision was also reiterated during a meeting of the Campus
Rebuilding and Upgrading Committee held on 9 Janaury 2012, where it was
decided to speed up the clearing and cleaning process of the
campus.
The President, while agreeing to the demand of the Academic Senate as
well as the AIT Student Union to begin academic classes from the AIT
campus on 15 February 2012, stated that it is important to realize that
the conditions in the campus may not be ideal, and that due precautions
should be taken before operations return to normal. However certain
minimum conditions will have to be fulfilled by the end of January
before finalizing the move, he said. He added that the status of
different facilities and services which will be available to the AIT
community would be announced soon.
The President also announced a break for students until 14 February
2012 to allow them to recuperate from the post-flood stress. Mr. Bhawat
Traipattanakul, President, AIT Student Union also attended the special
meeting of the Academic Senate to represent the viewpoint of the AIT
students.
