Government of Bangladesh ratifies the AIT Charter
Republic of Bangladesh has become the seventh country to ratify the new AIT Charter. The AIT Charter was ratified at the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Bangladesh held at the capital city of Dacca on 2 January 2012. The meeting of the Bangladesh Council of Ministers was chaired by H.E. Sheikh Hasina.
The formal announcement of the decision of the Council of Ministers was made by Mr. Abul Kalam Azad, Press Secretary of the Bangladesh Prime Minister.The AIT Charter was signed on 25 August 2010, when 12 countries and one International organization signed the Charter. Subsequently Indonesia also signed the Charter on 20 January 2011. H.E. Mr. Kazi Imtiaz Hossain, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand had signed the AIT Charter on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh.

The Charter will become effective from 30 January 2012. So far Japan, Sweden, India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have ratified the Charter and deposited the Instrument of Ratification to the Royal Thai Government. Nepal has also ratified the Charter.
