The delegation, which included Dr. Yoshihisa Maruyama, Department of
Urban Environment Systems, Graduate School of Engineering, Chiba University, met with
senior AIT officials on 6 February 2012.
Prof. Yamazaki revealed that the Government of Japan is promoting
student exchange programs to encourage more Japanese students travel
abroad for education and research. Chiba University has over 1000
International students from 56 countries. He remarked that AIT is a
preferred partner since both Chiba University and AIT already have had
a previous partnership. Also, AIT offers its entire educational program
in English, which makes it very attractive, he added.
AIT was represented by Dr. Pennung Warnitchai of School of Engineering
and Technology (SET); Dr. Vilas Nitivattananon of School of
Environment, Resources and Development (SERD); Dr. Masahiko Nagai,
Associate Director, Geo Informatics Center (GIC); Mr. Olivier Drean,
Interim Head, External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO); and
Ms. Tiamkare Thitithamtada, Senior Program Officer, ERCO.
The delegation expressed interest in collaborating with Structural
Engineering (STE), Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Management
(DPMM), Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (RS-GIS),
Urban Environmental Management (UEM), Energy, and Telecommunications
(TC) fields of study at AIT.
