AIT launches first dual doctoral program with Sokendai, Japan

A delegation from Sokendai
visited AIT from 28-30 March 2012 to discuss the details of the dual
doctoral degree program. Led by Prof. Ken Satoh, Head of the Department
of Informatics and Professor of Principles of Informatics Research
Division, Sokendai, the delegation informed AIT students about the
opportunities offered by the program.

The program was finalized following a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA)
signed by the Sokendai President, Naoyuki Takahata and the AIT
President, Prof. Said Irandoust in January 2012.

The delegation held deliberations with Prof. Vilas Wuwongsee of
Computer Science and Information Management (CSIM) field of study, Dr.
Poompat Saengudom, Coordinator, Telecommunications (TC) and Information
Management (ICT) field of study, and Dr. Raphael Duboz, visiting
faculty, to discuss the program modalities.

The delegation met the AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust and
expressed their sorrow at the impact of the flood in the AIT campus.
The AIT President, while welcoming the delegation appreciated the help
and assistance provided by the Government of Japan to AIT. He
highlighted the historical association of AIT with Japan, stating that
Japan is one of the first signatories of AIT’s intergovernmental
charter. Stating that “student mobility is a part of quality
enhancement as it provides new opportunities and enhancing learning,”
the AIT President complimented the launch of the dual doctoral degree
program.

Apart from Professor Satoh, the delegation from Sokendai included
Prof. Noboru Sonehara, Prof. Ken Hayami, Prof. Tomohiro Yoneda, Dr.
Helmut Prendinger, Dr. Tetsunari Inamura, Dr. Kensuke Fukuda, Prof.
Henri Angelino, Dr. Masashi Ueda, Ms. Akiko Maekawa, and Ms. Mio
Takahashi.

Prof. I.M.Pandey, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Nitin
Afzulpurkar, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, Dr. Mathew
Dailey, Coordinator, CSIM field of study, Mr. Olivier Drean,
Interim-Head, External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO), Ms.
Tiamkare Thitithamtada, Senior Program Officer, and Ms. Sumana
Shrestha, Program Officer, ERCO also participated in the meeting.
