Clausthal University seeks partnership with AIT

Prof. Wesling remarked that AIT and TU Clausthal had a
partnership eight years ago, and they are keen to capitalize on the
previous agreement. “We have a keen interest is the field of geo
sciences and we would like AIT to associate with us,” he remarked. TU
Clausthal hosts three faculties, with each faculty hosting one
specialized center in the field of energy, simulation and material
science respectively, he revealed.

Prof. Wesling was accompanied by Ms. Susanne Romanowski, Director,
International Center (IZC), and Ms. Astrid Abel, Deputy Director (IZC),
who shared information about the numerous exchange programs being
offered by their university.

Welcoming the delegation, Prof. Said Irandoust, President, AIT briefed
the delegation about AIT’s mission and vision. Prof. Irandoust informed
them that Germany was one of the countries which have agreed to sign
the New AIT Charter. He added that AIT combines internationality and an
Asian perspective, and this makes AIT a very popular destination for
European exchange students. He cited the example of University of
Borås, Sweden, which sends students to AIT for one semester to help its
students acquire an Asian orientation. Univerity of Borås is also a
partner of TU Clausthal.

Others who attended the meeting included Prof. I.M.Pandey, Vice
President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Weerakorn Ongsakul, Dean, School of
Environment, Resources and Development (SERD); Mr. Olivier Drean,
Interim-Head, External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO); and
Mr. Tenzin Rabgyal, Senior Program Officer, ERCO. Earlier the
delegation also met with faculty from the Geo Technical and Earth
Resource Engineering (GTE) field of study at AIT's School of
Engineering and Technology (SET) where they discussed issues of mutual
interest.
