TSF chief assures AIT of support, keen to continue partnership

The TSF President stated that AIT has provided many volunteers to TSF,
and in return these students had acquired real-life experience in
disaster conditions. TSF, whose office and facilities were inundated
during the October 2011 flood, also expressed its interest to return to
the AIT campus. He added that TSF will be hosting a major European
Commission funded training camp at AIT in 2013.

The TSF delegation included its President, Mr. Jean-François Cazanave;
Director, Ms. Monique Lanne-Petit; and Delegate for Asia and Pacific,
Mr. Gregory Rebattu, and member of the TSF Board, Mr. Francois Meyer.

Welcoming the delegation, AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust stated
that TSF has always been an important partner for AIT. Following the
flood, there is an increased awareness of communication in emergency
situations, and the need to establish proper processes to deal with
such situations, he said. Prof. Irandoust added that AIT has suffered
due to the October 2011 flood, and the Institute is in the process of
documenting the flood experience.

Mr. Gregory Rebattu complimented TSF volunteers from AIT, and revealed
how they have been engaged in various disaster operations in Asia and
East Africa. Dr. Pennung Warnitchai, Coordinator, Disaster
Preparedness, Mitigation and Management (DPMM) field of study, AIT,
suggested that the engagement of TSF with AIT can be strengthened by
involving other AIT partners who are also engaged in disaster
management efforts. This would enhance effectiveness during disasters,
he added.

Others who participated in the meeting included Dr. Poompat
Saengudomlert, coordinator, Telecommunication field of study, AIT, and
Tiamkare Thitithamtada, Senior Program Officer, External Relations and
Communications Office, AIT.
