They also invited AIT to explore the possibility of establishing a
campus, stating that infrastructure and campus facilities already exist
in Guangdong in case AIT is interested in establishing a center.
Led by Dr. Sen Zhuang, Professor of Guangzhou Pearl-River
Vocational-Techno College and Director of Guangdong Education Services
of International Exchanges (Tianhe Branch), the delegation stated that
they are the only official governmental organization in Guangdong
province, which is authorized to handle foreign student affairs. The
organization can liaise with all universities and educational
institutes located in Guagdong province.
Welcoming the delegation, Prof. I. M. Pandey, Vice President for
Academic Affairs, AIT stated that China is an important partner for
AIT. AIT has had a strong academic linkage with Institutes in China,
and students from China have always had a presence in the Institute, he
remarked. He welcomed the proposal of a satellite campus in
Guangdong.
The visiting delegation expressed a keen interest in the International
Unified Bachelor-Master program, and stated that they are keen to
launch the unified program in the coming few months. They welcomed the
idea of a two-stage program, where students would be admitted in China
for the first phase of the program, and they could complete the final
phase of their program at AIT.
Guang Dong province is one of the most developed regions in China,
with half a million tertiary level students graduating every year.
Fifty-two percent of them graduate from colleges under a three-year
study program; while the remaining 48 per cent graduate from
universities under a four-year program.
Dr. Weerakorn Ongsakul, Dean, School of Environment, Resources and
Development (SERD) suggested that these graduates can avail the benefit
of upgrading and continuing education from AIT. Dr. Juthathip
Jongwanich of AIT’s School of Management elaborated on the study
exchange program of AIT students in China.

President of AIT Chinese Student Association, Mr. Qi Xinjian; Ms.
Tiamkare Thitithamtada, Senior Program Officer, External Relations and
Communications Office (ERCO) and Mr. Tenzin Rabgyal, Senior Program
Officer, ERCO also participated in the meeting.
