The donation included individual pledges from 27 new graduates of the
EMBA Dongnai Vietnam program. Each contributed between Baht 1000-1700
to assist the School of Management’s flood recovery efforts.
Mr. Son Thanh Chu, Class
Monitor of the EMBA Dongnai Vietnam Batch 2012, who is currently Vice
General Director of Sonadezi Corporation, said: “I think it is natural
that we are able to give a hand to help SOM repair the damage from the
flood of last year. SOM is our family; it’s where we have spent almost
two years (of our lives) to achieve our EMBA program.
“Some Vietnamese students of
SOM and I had gone back to the main campus after we finished our
defense work in Bangkok in January. We got a terrible sense of the
School’s (condition). So when I went back to Vietnam, I sent letters to
all my classmates, and to some other students of SOM whom I know,
asking for a donation for the School. ”
The proud new grads handed
over the donation in Thailand when they attended AIT’s 117th
Graduation Ceremony on June 1.
According to Son Thanh Chu,
the donation will go to the overall AIT Flood Emergency Fund. But the
batch members would prefer to see the donation used by SOM to rebuild
its classrooms or to fix some of the damage caused from last year’s
flood, he said.
The School also received a
cash donation from recent alumnus Ms. Patarawan Chaowasakoo, a SOM
graduate from the Batch of 2011, and her friend, Ms. Payoun Suksawang,
who together donated Baht 3,000 for AIT-SOM flood recovery
activities.
School of Management Dean
Dr. Barbara Igel thanked all of the donors for their generosity, and
expressed thanks also to all the alumni and stakeholders for their help
at this time of need.
