Ms. Chomchai Morya, mother of Mr. Kewin Morya, an alumnus from Energy
Technology (1998) at AIT, who is currently working in Brunei made the
donation on behalf of her son to his alma mater. “I asked my son to do
something for AIT,” the proud mother recalled. The Institute needs help
and it is time to take action, she averred. Mr. Kewin, who too had been
thinking about AIT, expressed his gratitude to his alma mater crediting
it for his successful career. “I do not want my school to be
forgotten,” the son told his mother as he pledged a donation.
“AIT is like the United Nations for education, where people from so
many countries study together,” she said. Today, Kewin is pursuing a
successful career in Brunei, after having worked in Oman. AIT’s culture
helped him acquire an international disposition which is standing him
in good stead.
“Ms. Chomchai recalls that her son bagged a scholarship from AIT at a
very difficult time during the financial crisis in the late nineties.
“I always tell my son that he should always be grateful to his country
and the place where he studied,” an advice reiterated by Kewin's
father,
Mr. Kriengsak Morya, who was also present on the occasion.
Besides her son, Ms. Chomchai also treats AIT with fondness. Her work
took her to Ayutthaya and Nawa Nakhon, and almost twice a week, she
used to visit AIT to enjoy a meal.
Handing over the donation to Prof. Worsak Kanok Nukulchai, Vice
President for Resource Development, who received the money on behalf of
the AIT President, she stated that the donation has no strings
attached. “When we donate to monks, we do not ask where they will spend
the money,” she reasoned. People will talk ill and there will be
critics, but if you listen to critics then no work will ever get done,
she remarked. And that is why she chose to listen to her own voice and
encouraged her son to contribute to AIT. And as soon as her son decided
to donate a 100,000 THB, she went to the bank to withdraw the cash.
Prof Worsak, while appreciating the donation stated that the entire
donation by alumni has been placed in a separate account and every
expenditure is being accounted for to ensure transparency. He also
provided details of AIT’s Endowment Fund. Dr. Tien Le Hoang, Head, AIT
Alumni Affairs Office; Ms. Lakmini Wickrama Adittiya, Research
Consultant, Fundraising Office, also attending the hand-over
ceremony.
This is certainly not the last, but it is the beginning of donations,”
she remarked. Alumni from AIT have a long way to go, and they will
always repay their gratitude to their Institute.
