Nepal PM reaffirms support to AIT Council, says country is proud to be a member

The Prime Minister made these remarks in a meeting with the AIT
President, Prof. Said Irandoust on 28 June 2012 in Kathmandu.

Prime Minister Bhattarai also stated that as a symbolic contribution
on the part of Nepal, the government will set aside a number of
scholarships for Nepalese nationals to study at AIT. These scholarships
will target the August 2012 intake, and will focus on fields of study
that are of priority to Nepal.

Prime Minister Bhattarai welcomed the initiative of setting up of
satellite campuses in a number of targeted countries. Nepal welcomes
this idea, the Prime Minister said, assuring AIT of the government’s
full help in implementing such plans.

AIT President thanked the Prime Minister for its strong support,
stating that the Institute is honored by having Nepal as one of the
founder members of AIT’s Intergovernmental Council. Nepal is an
important partner, and AIT has contributed tremendously towards
capacity building in Nepal all these years, Prof. Irandoust remarked.

Prof. Irandoust also thanked the Chief Secretary of Government of
Nepal, Mr. Madhav Prasad Ghimire for his help towards his alma mater.
Mr. Ghimire is an AIT alumnus (Master’s in Science in 1992 in Human
Settlements and Development). The meeting was also joined by Mr.
Madhusudan Paudel, President, Nepal Chapter of AIT Alumni Association
(AITAA); Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director Fundraising, AIT; Mr. Karma
Rana, Institute Secretary; and AIT alumnus Dr. Laxmi Prasad Devkota.

In another meeting, the AIT President also thanked Mr. Kiran Dongol,
Vice President, AITAA Nepal Chapter, and the many distinguished alumni
for all their dedication in furthering AIT’s cause.
