Before assuming the position, formal orders conferring membership of
Board of Governors will be signed by the Prime Minister of Thailand and
will be announced officially in the Government Gazette.
Thai PBS is the first public TV broadcaster in South-East Asia, and
functions under the Thai Public Broadcasting Service Act B.E.2008. It
enjoys the status of a state agency with legal responsibility, without
being a government agency or a state enterprise.
Thai PBS receives financial support from taxes such as alcohol and
tobacco, which accounts for almost two billion THB annually. This is to
ensure its financial independence and to protect it from possible
business influence. The Act ensures that the public broadcaster remains
immune from both political and commercial influence.
Dr. Teerapat and other committee members will supervise and help the
President of Thai PBS and its management team with policy inputs to
facilitate its smooth functioning. The Board members also ensure that
the taxes are utilized properly to produce television programs that are
free from political and commercial bias.
