After presiding over the awarding ceremony of distinguished Thai
scientists and science educators, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn
visited the AIT booth where she viewed several examples of current
research being implemented at the Institute, such as a smart policeman
mannequin that can detect traffic violators
instantaneously.
This research, spearheaded by Dr. Mongkol Ekpanyapong,
Microelectronics & Embedded Systems and Mechatronics and Dr.
Matthew Dailey, Coordinator of the Computer Science & Information
Management field of study, both from the School of Engineering and
Technology (SET), is undergoing its final testing and is scheduled for
release to the Royal Thai Police in 2-3 months.
The research on display also included examples of nanotechnology
materials and their practical applications, a smart green house
operated via the Internet, a flood emergency boat made from garbage
bins and a display of emergency clothes made from newspapers, garbage
bags and plastic bottles.
The fair is an initiative of the National Science Museum (NSM) and the
Ministry of Science and Technology. The annual national event aims to
encourage the youth and general public to learn how science and
technology plays an important role in everyday life. This year, the
fair featured an exhibition in honor of His Majesty King Bhumibol
Adulyadej, Royal Pavilion, The Father of Thai Science and Technologies,
Disaster Prevention, The Bus 4D Simulator, and Earth & Universe.
The fair is open for the public from 17-31 August 2012 at halls
104-106, BITEC.
The AIT delegation was led by President Said Irandoust. Dr. Weerakorn
Ongsakul, Dean, School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD)
delivered the report of the research featured at the exhibit. Mr. Ahmed
Amjad Ali, Head-External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO);
Ms. Wannapa Pliansri, Royal Thai Government Coordinator-ERCO; Ms. Kim
Escobin, Media Officer, Media and Communications Unit-ERCO; and
students Mr. Bambang Marhaenanto, Mr. Muhammad Makky, both from
Agricultural Systems and Engineering-SERD; and Mr.Buddhapala Wongkaew
(SET) also participated in the event. A number of AIT
students have also been volunteering their time
at the AIT booth throughout the two-week fair.
