The scholarship scheme begins from August 2012, and is intended to
improve and upgrade teaching quality in Afghanistan universities under
the Strengthening of Higher Education Program (SHEP). The scholarship
amount under the SHEP scheme is 23 million THB.
According to Dr. Naveed Anwar, Executive Director, AIT Consulting, who
is managing the initiative, 11 students from Afghanistan have already
arrived at AIT. Some are attending the bridging program, while others
have joined regular classes. Welcoming the scholarships, the AIT
President Prof. Said Irandoust remarked that the World Bank
scholarships are testimony to AIT’s quality, which is recognized
globally.
The Minister of Higher Education, Afghanistan; Coordinator of SHEP,
and Chancellor of Kabul University, and other delegates are scheduled
to visit AIT in November to discuss details of this
collaboration.
SHEP is a program funded by the World Bank which seeks development of
the higher education sector. It supports 12 core universities in
Afghanistan besides nine regional universities.
