499 graduates from 30 countries graduate from AIT

Thailand provided the biggest cohort of graduating students (155)
followed by Vietnam (123). Students from Sri Lanka (47) form the third
largest batch followed by Nepal (46) and Myanmar (26). Pakistan (19),
Indian (14), Bangladesh (13) and Indonesia (12) are the other major
countries of origin of the graduating students. The 499 graduates
included 33 Doctoral graduates. Graduating students came from all the
three AIT schools, with 227 graduates coming from the School of
Engineering and Technology (SET), 150 from the School of Environment,
Resources and Development (SERD), and 115 from the School of Management
(SOM).

Gracing the occasion was the Indian federal minister of Petroleum and
Natural Gas, Dr. Veerappa Moily, who delivered the Graduation Speech
during the morning session of the Graduation. Former Deputy Prime
Minister of Thailand, Dr. Sahas Bunditkul was the graduation speaker
during the afternoon session.

The AIT Graduation ceremony witnessed participation from senior AIT
alumni with Dr. Subin Pinyakan, former Foreign Minister and a student
of AIT’s first batch in 1959, and Dr. Tint Lwin Thaung (1992),
Executive Director of RECOFTC delivering the message on behalf of AIT
alumni.

Acting AIT President, Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai delivered the
Graduation message. Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof.
Sivanappan Kumar was the Chairperson of the Graduation ceremony.

Mr. Ghaffar Ali, a doctoral graduate from the field of urban and
environmental management delivered a message on behalf of all doctoral
graduates from AIT’s SERD and SOM. Mr. Rajeev Ranjan Sinha, delivered a
message of behalf of all Master’s students from SERD and SOM.

Dignitaries and representatives of governments who participated in the
Graduation included Hon. Athauda Seneviratne, Senior Minister of Rural
Affairs, Government of Sri Lanka; Former Prime Minister of Nepal, Hon.
Mr. Madhav Kumar Nepal; H.E. Mr. Kazi Imtiaz Hossian, Ambassador of
Bangladesh; H.E. Mr. Kesang Wangdi, Ambassador of Bhutan; H.E. Mr. Anil
Wadhwa, Ambassador of India; H.E. Mr. Jorge Eduardo Chen Charpentier,
Ambassador of Mexico; H.E. Mr. Sohail Mahmod, Ambassador of Pakistan;
H.E. Mrs. Jocelyn S Batoon-Garcia, Ambassador of the Philippines; H.E.
Gen (Retd.) Suwanda Hennadige Shantha Kottegoa, Ambassador of Sri
Lanka; H.E. Mr. Ngo Duc Thang, Ambassador of Vietnam; and Mr. Hiroyuki
Konuma, Assistant Director-General and Regional Representatives, Food
and Agricultural Organization (FAO). President Pornchai Mongkhonvanit,
President, Siam University; Mr. Chawalit Chantararat, President, AIT
Alumni Association; and Mr. Thanin Bumrongsap, President, AIT Alumni
Association (Thai chapter) also attended the Graduation.
