The formal agreement to award the scholarship was signed on 28 June
2013 by Managing Director of SPS Global Corporation, Dr. Soontorn
Piromsartkoon, and the AIT Acting President, Prof. Worsak
Kanok-Nukulchai. Besides the scholarship, the company is besides
exploring internship opportunities for students of AIT’s School of
Engineering and Technology (SET) and SERD.
Dr. Soontorn, who graduated from with a Master’s from Environmental
Engineering and Management (EEM) program in 2012 stated that it was a
very special day for SPS Global. Describing it as “a milestone in the
history of SPS Global”, Dr. Soontorn said the company is very proud to
partner with AIT. The MoU seeks to share knowledge and expertise
between AIT and SPS Global, he added. Dr. Soontorn added that they
would look into increasing the number of scholarship recipients in the
future.
Welcoming the delegation from SPS Global, Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai
remarked that AIT is thankful for the support. Describing the
scholarship as “good news”, Prof. Worsak added that AIT needs support
from the industry. Prof. Worsak stated that AIT would be happy to help
SPS in return.
Prof. Sivanappan Kumar, Vice President for Academic Affairs said that
the MoU would open the doors for further collaboration, and internship
offers can be explored both in Thailand and overseas. He described the
gesture by SPS as a “fitting and proud” moment. Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe,
Director Fundraising and Interim Head, Alumni Affairs Office, welcomed
the delegates and thanked them for their contribution.
The MoU also aims as research collaboration between AIT and SPS
Global. Besides, the two will also partner is organizing promotional
activities of enrolment of international students.
