Accompanying Interim President Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai and AIT
officials to a meeting with BJC President and CEO Mr. Aswin
Techajareonvikul at the firm’s Bangkok headquarters, the trio from
Vietnam and Myanmar thanked the executive first-hand for his company’s
generous funding of their studies at AIT.
The BJC scholarship recipients will commit to two years of employment
with the company in their home countries after graduation. “Don’t let
us down,” the CEO told SOM management students Ms. Tran Thi Thu Huyen,
25, and Mr. Lam Tuan Vu, 24, from Vietnam and Ms. Win Myat Hay Mar, 24,
from Myanmar.
Warmly welcoming the AIT delegation, Mr. Aswin said his firm had just
celebrated its 130th anniversary of operations in trading,
manufacturing and servicing fields in Thailand and within the ASEAN
region.
As the company expands its operations within the emerging AEC, it will
assume a long-term horizon for growth that involves a strong commitment
to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and investing in the citizens
of countries where it does business, he said.
President Worsak reiterated AIT’s strong appreciation for BJC’s
support, thanking the young CEO for his far-sighted policy of
benefiting students in the region.
Dr. Juthathip Jongwanich, Assistant Professor, SOM, who initiated the
program with BJC, also thanked Mr. Aswin and expressed her hope that
the AIT students would prove to be valuable assets for the company’s
success.
A graduate of Chulalongkorn and Harvard Universities, and possessing an
MBA degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mr. Aswin
offered some sage advice to his future employees. “Take full advantage
of what a distinguished institution such as AIT has to offer. Be
inquisitive and learn from your peers. Your MBA degree will prepare you
well for a career full of opportunities which will surely come to
you.”
Explaining his company’s strategy for developing human capital where it
operates and its emphasis on professional learning and growth, he
further invited the three to avail of internship opportunities at BJC
during their semester breaks, and to visit the company anytime. “We are
your family now,” stressed.
BJC has a strong presence in Vietnam, employing 3,000 staff on the
ground. There are plenty of opportunities within BJC for smart young
graduates from countries like Vietnam and Myanmar, Mr. Aswin
explained, asking the AIT students to “always be ambassadors
for BJC.”
