Mr. Supachai stated that it was their sincere intention to support AIT
in every manner. He added that Panya would look at other ways to
cooperate with AIT, and this partnership will not be restricted to
scholarships. Mr. Supachai said that their company is already working
with AIT in the fields of research and consultancy in disaster
management and water-related programs. Mr. Supachai congratulated the
two students from AIT who have been selected as recipients of the Panya
scholarship and asked them to work towards becoming ‘smart engineers.’
The delegation from Panya included six officials, all of them being
AIT alumni. Besides Mr. Supachai (alumnus of Water Resources
Engineering, 1983), the delegation included Mr. Prasit Ponvillai,
Executive Director (Water Resources Engineering, 1982); Mr. Sukid
Panjatanasak, Managing Director Trasnconsult Col.Ltd (Geotechnical and
Transporation Engineering, 1988); Dr. Siriluck Chumchean, Assistant
Executive Director (Water Resources Development, 1997); and Mr.
Surachai Laikarnchanapaiboon, Assistant Executive Director (Water
Resources Development, 1997).
Thanking the delegation, Prof. Worsak stated that the geopolitical
situation in the region has changed, and AIT is now looking towards
alternative sources of funding, particularly the industry. The Interim
President added that three companies have already pledged support to
AIT, and this includes TEAM Consulting, SPS Global and Panya.
Prof. Mukand S Babel, Coordinator, Water Engineering and Management
field of study at AIT’s School of Engineering and Technology (SET)
stated that he had the good fortune of working both at Panya and AIT.
Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director, Fundraising and Interim Head-Alumni
Affairs expressed his gratitude to the donors and thanked them on
behalf of AIT. Also attending the ceremony were Prof. Chettiyappan
Visvanathan, Interim Dean, School of Environment, Resources and
Development (SERD); Ms. Lakmini Wickrama Adittiya, Research Consultant,
Fundraising; and Ms. Sitahng Puttha, Administrative Officer, AIT Alumni
Affairs Office. The two scholarship recipients, Mr. Kaisorn Sarapagde,
Master’s student in Geotechnical Engineering, and Mr. Wutthichai
Tengchaisun, Master’s student in Water Engineering and Management also
attended the ceremony.
