A delegation from the Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU), China visited the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on 15 October 2013 and expressed its desire to engage with AIT in joint academic and research programs. Led by Prof. Zongguang Wang, Honorary Chairperson of the University Council, the delegation also invited AIT to participate in a conference on Information Technology to be held earlier next year.

short-term programs. She added that 30 per cent of their undergraduate
students have experience of studying abroad, and that they would be
glad to send students to AIT for short term programs. SJTU has
many famous alumni including former President of the People's Republic
of China. H.E. Mr. Jiang Zemin.The delegation mentioned that the philosophy of AIT and SJTU is
similar as both concentrate on societal application of research. Prof.
Wang added that SJTU is a comprehensive university with the electronics
and electrical engineering school being the largest. Ocean engineering
and civil engineering are key strengths of the university, and SJTU is
also known for a cross disciplinary platform in life sciences. The
University is very keen on partnerships in the field of Energy and
Environment, she added.They also presented copies of Thai translations of two books, one on
Information Technology, and the other on Energy and Environment.
Information Technology will also be the theme of a forthcoming
workshop in Bangkok in January 2014.
Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Interim President, AIT while welcoming
the delegation, stated that AIT is an international organization hosted
by Thailand. AIT has always received support from the Chinese
government, and many faculty from China has served at AIT at various
times. Prof. Worsak remarked that AIT can serve as a platform for SJTU
in its quest for internationalization.
The delegation from SJTU also included Mr. Dai Lin, Investigator,
China National Publications Import and Export (Group) Corporation
(CNPIEC); Dr. Han Jianmin, President of SJTU Press; Dr. Chang Tianwei,
Chief Editor of SJTU Press; Dr. Li Guangliang, Assistant President of
SJTU Press; and Dr. Guo Liang, Deputy Director of International
Cooperation and Exchange Division. The AIT team included Professor
Voratas Kachitvichyanukul, Interim Dean, School of Engineering and
Technology (SET); Dr. Donyaprueth Krairit, Interim Dean, School of
Management (SOM); Dr. Greogry Chiu of SET; Ms. Wannap Pliansri,
Coordinator, External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO); Mr.
Tenzin Rabgyal, Senior Program Officer, ERCO; and Mr. Qi Xinjian,
doctoral student from China at AIT's School of Environment, Resources
and Development (SERD).
