AIT President felicitates Cricket Team

Captain of the AIT Cricket Team, Mr. Hadi Hassan Khan briefed Prof.
Worsak about the achievements of the Cricket Team. The AIT Cricket Team
has won the BCL League for the second time in three years, while in
2011-2012, it had reached the semi-final of the Premier Division of the
Bangkok Cricket League.

The team, which comprises of students and AIT employees from
Australia, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, has 72
registered members.

“This year, the AIT Cricket Team defeated the Bangkok 11 Cricket Club
by 15 runs,” Hadi said. He added that the AIT Cricket Team is the only
sports team that has been representing the Institute at the national
level in Thailand since the past 10 years.

Other AIT cricketers who displayed outstanding performances included
Mr. Muhammad Shafiq, who won four “Man of the Match” awards this
season. He is also the highest run scorer with 382 runs and bagged the
“Best Batsman” award in the “A” Division. The team captain Mr. Hadi
Hassan Khan was the highest wicket taker with 21 wickets. Mr.
Babrak Ali Panezai was the only century scorer in ‘A’ Division.
Besides, he also boasts of the highest batting average in the league.
Mr. Anuj Shreshtha, Mr. Farhad Zulfiqar, Mr. Niraj, Mr. Rajeev Ranjan
Sinha, Mr. Lahriu Maneesha, Mr. Shah Alam Suman, Mr. Shankar Sherstha
Mr. Manoj Kumar, Mr. Yapa, and Mr. Abid Hussain have also made
significant contributions to the team’s success.

Besides Mr. Hadi, other team members who met Prof. Worsak included Mr.
Babrak Ali Panezai, Mr. Muhammad Shafiq, and Mr. Fawad Najam. Mr.
Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director, Fundraising also joined the meeting. The
team also thanked Prof. Sivanappan Kumar, Vice President for Academic
Affairs for announcing the cash award on the occasion of AIT Student
Union Cultural Show.
