PMBF Program celebrates 19 new graduates from Bangladesh, Bhutan and Myanmar banking sectors

Following nine months of intensive study at AIT, ten Bangladeshi
nationals, along with seven students from Bhutan and two from Myanmar
received special certificates of completion from AIT Interim President
Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, in addition to their Professional
Master’s degrees conferred at the 120th AIT Graduation Ceremony on 17
December 2013.

The ceremony marked the third graduating class of the PMBF, pushing
the total number of graduates to 66, including 46 bankers from
Bangladesh Bank and 18 from the Bank of Bhutan. All students of the
program are full-time mid-level banking professionals studying while on
extended leave from their jobs.

The PMBF, which is delivered through a collaboration by the AIT School
of Management and AIT Extension, is a prime example of AIT’s
responsiveness to meet the needs of countries in the region, President
Worsak remarked. “AIT looks forward to further strengthening its
relationships with our partners in the banking and financial sectors of
Bangladesh, Bhutan and Myanmar to address their human resources needs,”
he said.

Mr. Karma W. Penjor, Chairman, Bank of Bhutan Ltd, in his remarks to
the graduates, complimented the program for its quality and
flexibility. He called for further strengthening the program with AIT,
saying last year’s PMBF graduates are already leading branches of his
bank, while some head departments at headquarters. “We are very happy
with our collaboration with AIT and hope it continues.”

New graduate Ms. Theingi Nyein, Assistant  Director at the
Central Bank of Myanmar, agreed: “Our country is changing quickly with
financial reforms, and we can apply the practical knowledge learned in
the PMBF right away to our organization.”

Addressing the event, Mr. Md. Ahsah Ullah, Executive Director,
Bangladesh Bank, expressed thanks to AIT and praised the standard of
the program. Investing in the education and professional capacity of
our staff is a high priority, he said. The senior banker added that
Bangladesh Bank would be very interested to explore the possibility of
sending staff members to AIT to earn their PhD in banking and
finance.

Bangladesh's Mr. Mohammad Mizanur Rahman called program in Thailand an
enriching professional and life experience. "AIT is now my second home,
and I will miss the campus very much," he said.

AIT Executive Director Dr. Jonathan Shaw offered his delight that the
Institute has been able to contribute so directly to the development of
the banking sector in Bangladesh for three years through the PMBF, and
for two years in Bhutan.

Thanking all concerned with the successful program, especially AIT
Extension and PMBF Director Dr. Sundar Venkatesh for his leadership,
the Dean of the AIT School Management Dr. Donyaprueth Krairit urged the
graduates to apply their knowledge, create new opportunities, and link
up with their new colleagues from across the region. “Don’t disappoint
your beloved alma mater AIT."
